Mounting Supplies

Every stereo photographer needs mounting supplies to finish their 3D art. Here are some accessories that will help you get professional results.

Prices do not include postage and insurance. Thanks, Tom

Vintage Masks, Mounts, Glass, and Frames

There are plenty of sources for currently made mounting supplies, but if you want to restore older slides that have damaged mounts or glass, or the tape is falling off and making a mess you need vintage mounting materials. These kind of come and go, so check back often if you don't find what you need.

1. Emde aluminum masks ultra close-up (4 perf size) and glassless frames. Great for Nimslo and beamsplitter slides that you would like to mount in regular stereo viewer sized mounts. 100 count. $20.00

Slide and Film Cutters

If you work in stereo slide film, you have to have a sharp film cutter to keep your edges straight and clean. There are several features on the cutters that you will need to decide which are important for you.

Lighted vs. non-lighted. You do need to see where you are cutting to insure that you are not cutting into the picture area of your film. If you have a light box that you normally work on, then a non-lighted cutter will be your best choice. They are smaller, lighter, and are less expensive than a lighted cutter. A lighted cutter costs less then a non-lighted cutter and light box, and is smaller in size, so if you do not already have a light box then that is they way you should go.

Pin registered vs. free cut advance. If you use just one stereo camera and it does not have a problem with frame overlap, then a pin-registered cutter will be the fastest way to cut your film. You just align the pin that fits in one of the sprocket holes of your film, so that the first cut is in between the two frames of film, tighten it down, and no more adjustments will need to be made. However, if you use more than one camera, or the camera that you have occasionally overlaps frames, a cutter that lets you adjust where the cut will fall on each frame will probably be a better choice. They are a little slower to use since you must visually line up each cut, but they are more flexible for letting you decide where the best place to cut is and you do not have to set a register for each camera that you use.
