About the MnHPVA

This page contains info about the MnHPVA, a little about the goals of the club, and a link to membership form.

The Minnesota Human Powered Vehicle Association is a group of individuals with a common interest in alternatives to the currently available transportation offered today. We are a totally volunteer organization, and a local area chapter of the International Human Powered Vehicle Association. We have been meeting and producing a local newsletter since 1985. Our current membership is about 70 people from all walks of life from the Twin Cities Metro area and around the state, and the US.

We hold regular monthly meetings, on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. We generally meet from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Nokomis Community Center on the north side of Lake Nokomis on Minnehaha Parkway in Minneapolis. During the summer months ( May to October) we will meet at 6:00pm (weather permitting) for a one hour "meet and decide" ride prior to each meeting. Ocassionally we may have to change times or place so keep an eye on the back page of the newsletter for any changes or updates. You can always check the web page for current info.

The contents of our publications are dependent on what is submitted for printing. We will print anything within reason. Because of this some newsletters are better then others. Meetings may have a scheduled format or may just be a "hackers" meeting for builders and enthusiasts. Rides and events are scheduled throughout the year and are listed in the newsletter.

Our main focus is to assist people in finding or developing viable transportation alternatives while utilizing human power for propulsion. This may include bikes of many different types and shapes, water craft, all terrain vehicles, altered ability vehicles, or what ever design shows up at a meeting or ride. We have several basic rules. All vehicles must have a safe way to stop, and everyone who participates must wear a helmet. Pretty much everything else is open to innovation.

The only costs are for mailings so a yearly membership dues of $10.00 is asked to help to cover these costs. An E-Mail membership is free and you will be sent copies of all newsletters, at present the only thing missing is the pictures, and we are working on figuring that out soon. The club also maintains a large file of information on recumbents, human power, bikes and bike technology, plans, safety, and notes and resources for builders. This info is available to you on request, there may be a small cost to cover copying and mailing.

For further information contact either Dave Krafft @ (612) 929-2978 or Mark Stonich @ (612) 824-2372. They can give you current information about group activities and upcoming events or provide resources if you are looking for a bike or information about a bike.

We hope that you will find an alternative that works for you! If there are any other questions or we can help in any way please feel free to contact us at any time

Newsletter Submissions

We need all the newsletter articles we can get. Road tests, Ride reports, Race reports, How-Tos and Tech Articles are what we usually publish, but we'll print almost anything HPV related. The newsletter is prepared using Microsoft Word 5.1a, on a Macintosh SE30. I can read 3.5" MS-Dos disks if you save as Text. If you use Word on a PC, you can save as a Macintosh Word 5.1 file and I'll even get your formatting. E-Mailing it to me at mstonich @bitstream.net is even easier. If you can't E-Mail me or give me a diskette, I can cut and paste hard copy. However, I won't be able to include it in the E-Mail edition.
