A Brief Description of the 2LVCO Procedure

(This is standard stuff. There's also reverse 2LVCO)
Operation
  1. Use data terminal to dial TRS via line 2 (as shown in illustration)
  2. When TRS answers, type your line 1 number for TRS to call; either
    1. "Pls dial (XXX) xxx-xxxx ga" OR
    2. "This is a two-line VCO call, pls dial (XXX) xxx-xxxx ga"
  3. When line 1 rings, answer with your voice
  4. Confirm that CA is familiar with 2LVCO by asking "Have you ever done two-line VCO?"
If CA answers in the negative, you may wish to ask CA if you can "walk" him/her through, as it is faster and more effective than waiting for CA to find a supervisor or read the manual
  5. You may want to request mute microphone* (not only will this prevent CA from accidentally talking, it also mutes the typing sounds for the hearing person)
  6. Place call to 3rd party
    1. Place CA on hold by "flashing" phone hook: depress the button and release (office phones: press "Hold")
    2. WAIT FOR DIAL TONE. (If you can't hear it, use the playground method "one-one thousand, two-one thousand, three." Otherwise, the call may not go through.
    3. Dial your 3rd party
    4. Flash hook to bring CA back on line (office phones: press "Conf")
  7. The operator should use the "Ringing ...1 ...2 ..." macro to indicate ringing, then begin typing as soon as the voice comes on line. If you can listen at all on the phone, so much the better!
  8. Engage in a two-way conversation with your 3rd party (Use any hearing you have to cut down on the delay between the voice and the typing.)
  9. If answering machine, wait until you can identify that the correct number has been dialed, then instruct the CA to "please skip to the beep." The CA can stop typing, minimizing delay, and signal with a typed "beep" when it is time to voice your message.
  10. At the end of the conversation or message, terminate call by flashing the hook (office phone: press "Hold")
  11. Ask the CA if he/she can hear you. If no response, flash the hook/press Hold again
  12. When ready to make another call, flash hook again (office phone: press "Hold")
  13. Dial 3rd party's number
  14. Flash hook again (office phone: press "Conf") to bring CA back on line
  15. Repeat process as often as desired!

*Asking about familiarity with 2LVCO and requesting mute mike may not be necessary in your area.
