What's a 2LVCO call like?

A call with 2LVCO

LISA: Hello?

JASON: Hi. This is Jason calling for Lisa.

LISA: Hi Jason. This is Lisa.

JASON: Hey Lisa! We met last night - I mean this morning - [CA types "HAHAHA" so Jason knows the quip worked and he moves to roll with the momentum] at Dave's party. I know it's not cool to call so soon afterwards but the way you looked, I figured a bunch of other guys will be calling you soon, and I wanted first dibs.

LISA: Ha ha! You're so sweet.

JASON: I can be macho, too. Want to hear me growl?

LISA: Ha ha! No, not now. And, just so you know, you are the first guy to call me.

[conversation continues]

A regular VCO call

LISA: Hello?

CA: This is the Minnesota Relay Service. Are you familiar with the relay service?

LISA: Um, no, not really.

CA: [explains service]

LISA: Ok, thanks. I guess this is Jason. I'm ready.

JASON: Hi. This is Jason calling for Lisa. Go ahead

LISA: Hi, this is Lisa. Go ahead.

JASON: Hi! We met last night - I mean this morning - Dave's party. Go ahead.

LISA: Hi Jason! Um, yes I remember you. Go ahead

JASON: I know it's not cool to call so soon afterwards but the way you looked, I figured a bunch of other guys will be calling you soon, and I wanted first dibs. Go ahead.

LISA: Oh, that's sweet of you. Go ahead.

JASON: I can be macho, too. Want to hear me growl? Go ahead

LISA: Ha ha! No, not now. And, just so you know, you are the first guy to call me.

[Call continues]

As you can see, while the words are nearly the same, the overall tone is different. Conventional and VCO relay calls require a conversational strategy markedly different from a standard face-to-face conversation.
