Since 1994 there have been four compact discs produced under the independent GEO Productions label entitled A Decade Later, Elephant Songs, Folk Carols and Piano. All of the music featured on the CD's was written and performed by me, Ethan, and is the result of tangents taken during practice time, time that could have and maybe should have been used for something else, but was used to create and escape (practicing) instead. I think it is this aspect of escapism that gives the music it's freedom.

I started playing the piano in the second grade and have since studied at MacPhail Center for the Arts, Interlochen Arts Academy, and the University of Minnesota. My repertoire currently includes works by Gershwin, Chopin, Scarlatti, Bach, Rachmoninoff, Barber, Debussy, Haydn, Grieg, Satie and Mendelssohn.

The techinical aspects of puting a CD together have always been a fascinating part of the process for me. As someone who enjoys cumputer programming, capturing music in digital form and keeping it as pure as possible has been a learning process for me. I left all of the technical stuff to people who know what they are doing but it is fun to see the wave forms bouncing accross the computer screen. All tracks on A Decade Later are straight takes without editing. Other than a small bit of reverb that was added to give a larger sound than my living room and the levels boosted a bit there was virtually nothing done to the audio. The result, I think, is an honest rendition of the songs as they were written.

The celebrated Christmas CD is ready to roll for another holiday season. Although there are a few traditional Christmas songs on the CD, Folk Carols also contains a strong presence of Scandinavian folk tunes. There are also two Grieg lyric pieces and three Niels Gade pieces. For more info on the songs and titles, check out the discography page.
