"Just got back
and having some trouble with my ears. Had trouble
clearing on the dives and even though I was able to go down, I
probably shouldn't have.
Had a ball at Cayman. I read that you can take in a liter of rum or other liquor or a case of beer and I would recomment that because a case of Bud runs close to $50 American and decent rum almost $30. I decided it was too much trouble, but I wished I had! Anybody going soon can get a liter of local rum and a six-pack of coke at the ABC store near the airport for 17CI. When leaving, there is 1L Myers rum for $9 at the duty free and I found out when I got home it is $18.00 here plus tax! save room in the carryon bag!
Best eating places were Pooh's in East End, Ol Jeb's near Old Man Bay and the Lone Star. Also had a great lunch the last day at the Lighthouse. I was surprised that all the merchants changed the currency to dollars for mastercard purchases, but it was a consistant thing. Wished I had brought money for everything in traveller's checks and cashed them at the bank for the extra 2-3% they give you for exchange. I guesss the merchants have to pay a fee to exchange their dollars.
Anyway, if you hear of anyone going over soon, give them my address and I'll answer any specific questions. Oh, best inexpensive outings are the Turtle Farm, the Botanical Garden on Frank's Sound Road, and the Museum in town. I wish I could find a rendering of that topographical model of the ocean floor they have in there. Just got my pictures back, and am sending one taken at Stingray City with one of those disposable underwater cameras (for comparison.)
I Printed out everything i got from you and took it with us. VERY helpful, and I passed it all on to some people who were arriving as we were leaving. They also appreciated it."
